Counseling Program Overview
Fulton County Schools ASCA Model Alignment
To align with the ASCA School Counseling Program Framework, school counseling programs must develop, implement, and monitor an Annual Comprehensive School Counseling Program Plan. This plan outlines school counseling services, including student outcome goals, action plans, classroom lessons, groups, events, and other program offerings.
Socio-Emotional Learning (SEL)
Throughout the school year, students participate in Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) lessons that build skills for success in school and life. Lessons focus on academic, career, and personal/social development and help students learn strategies for managing emotions, building positive relationships, and reaching their goals.

Topics May Include:
-
Executive functioning, organization, and study skills
-
Test-taking strategies and confidence
-
Friendship and communication skills
-
Emotional regulation and coping skills
-
Cooperation and teamwork
-
Problem-solving and personal safety
-
Growth mindset and resilience
-
College and career awareness
Through these classroom lessons, students gain tools and strategies to help them feel their best, do their best, and thrive both inside and outside the classroom.
Small Group Counseling
Small groups provide targeted support in areas such as friendships, social skills, emotional regulation, self-esteem, and coping strategies. Referrals may be made by parents, teachers, or staff, and parent/guardian permission is required. Groups typically meet weekly for 4–6 weeks.
Individual Student Support
School counselors provide short-term individual support and crisis response for students. Referrals may come from students, parents, teachers, or administrators. While ongoing therapy is not provided at school, counselors can connect families with community resources, Summit Counseling Center, and our school-based social worker, Randi Downey, to support students’ academic success and well-being.
